I Will Survive

I'm going home this weekend! Yay!!!!

And now that it is 8:43 p.m. it's about that time for me to start worrying about O. Chem lab tomorrow. yay....

This is it...

I don't think I'll make it through the night.....

If I should perish before I wake...I leave all my earthly possessions to Fred.

Not to brag or anything but I am just one of those people who don't get sick.  So when the rare occassion rolls around, I can fully admit I act like a total baby.   It takes a lot to bring this steed down, and I feel like I'm down for the knock out.

Wish me luck in fighting this demon.  Also, Modcloth is having a 70% of sale, for those of you who do have some spending money I'd hurry over! There are some fantastic steals :)

'Cause Two Can Keep a Secret

...if one of them is dead.

So there was a Pretty Little Liars marathon on yesterday, and thanks to the weather being so drab and my tv being on ABC Family because of Titanic I was able to catch the tail end of it and I'm ashamed surprised to admit that I'm hooked.

The creepier interesting part, my favorite storyline is the Aria/ Ezra one.  I LOVE them together.  For those who don't want (meaning the majority of you, I'm sure) Aria is in high school and Ezra is her english teacher.  When you watch it though it's not as creepy.  He just graduated college and they met before the school year and before they knew that they would soon be teacher and pupil.  Anway, if you have time I would recomend it if you can get past the teenagery (Yes, that's a word.) of it all.  Also, the acting is ridiculously superbly better than the acting in Secret Life of the American Teenager.  (In my opinion at least).

In addition, it is cold out, and this week's Glee episode was ridiculous.  Moreso in a good way though.  It still bums me out how much I LOVED the first part of season 1, then it kind of went downhill for me with the exception of a couple highlight episodes.

Anyway, this is my outfit for today, pretty simple and straighforward.  Excuse my hair, it's a hot mess :

For Those in Peril On the Sea...Pt. 1

So, those who know me know of my ridiculous, obsessive love for the movie Titanic.  After watching it on ABC Family 2 times this weeknd (and I don't regret a second of it!) I thought I would do my first "Tribute To..." piece on my blog.  Basically this feature if for things that I have an undying love for and/or were a major part of my life at some point (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Friends...) So to begin! aham

They Say That Things Just Cannot Grow...

...beneath this winter snow.

So, wonder of wonders, it's snowing again!  Let this not be mistaken, I am not happy about this.  It was soo beautiful this past week, and this is just a harsh reminder of what Mr. Groundhog fortold....winter is in fact, not over.  Thanks again for that Phil.   Ah well, such is life when you live in Ohio I suppose!  My only problem is that it's not so much snowing as one huge solid sheet of ice covering the entire city.  I can't tell you how many I saw fall walking to class, nor how many times I slipped on the ice myself.  Luckily I'm as graceful as a ballerina and was able to catch myself.

This was actually my outfit on Valentine's Day.  That's how on top of things I am.

I know the quality of the pictures is questionable, but I was working with very little light.  This has been my view up until a couple days ago when it melted away :

On the Issue of Weight

But first, a recap of my weekend!

Friday:

After the aforementioned hydrochloric acid incident in my organic chemistry lab, I got home preparing to go to the gym later on.  Part of my preparations were to take a nap (obviously), and in the middle of it I got a text from gbf2 asking if I wanted to go to a concert of gbf1.  So, I opted out of going and went to the concert which was...interesting...lots of "new music" which I can't say I'm a huge fan of.  Afterwards we went to Dairy Queen, and the Dairy Queen in my town is by far superior to any other DQ in the states.  I would bet money on it.  After ingesting a butterfinger blizzard (yumm-o!) we went over to gbf1's apartment and watched some I Love Lucy!

Then I went home and talked to my sister. Fascinating.

Saturday:

Not a whole lot happened.  Was on my way to the rec AND about to open it's doors when gbf1 called and asked if I wanted to go bowling or to the hockey game.  Neither happened, and we ended up watching Titanic, playing Jenga and ordering cookies.  It was fantastic.  And we came up with many new uses for jenga pieces.

Sunday:

Went to the rec and had an AWESOME work out.  Felt confident and amazing. Then I made the terribly tragic idea of going to weigh myself.  Obviously by my statement of it being "terribly tragic" you get the idea that that did not go over so well.

So now I sit here, writing this, while watching Titanic (Yes, that's right, twice in one weekend. Don't judge) and asking myself...why does it matter the number so much.

I felt amazing and confident before I stepped on the scale.  I thought I'd noticed a change for the better in the days prior yet as soon as I saw the number I felt sad and depressed the rest of the day.  And all I could notice was the chub.

Basically, I'm not going to let the stop me from continuing my working out or being happy with the way I look, but rather use it for motivation to kick my butt into gear.  I wonder if boys care this much about weight.  Any way you spin it though, I can't let a number dictate how I'm going to feel about myself, or my mood in general.

Pieta by Michaelangelo

Michelangelo's_Pieta_5450_cropncleaned

So, as the title says, this is Pieta by Michaelangelo (there should be a fancy accent above the a) and it is without question one of my favorite pieces we've studied so far in my art history class.  I don't think you have to be religious in order to understand it's beauty, however speaking from someone who is Catholic, I may be bias, who knows!

The first amazing thing is that this was created around 1510. 1510! I'm not trying to single out Michaelangelo though; it's amazing to see any work of art created and when it was.  (Leonardo, Raphael...you know, all the turtles ;) ).

Obviously this is a scene of Mary lamenting the death of Christ.  Maybe that's why I like it so much. Everytime you hear about it in church, or in general, you just get told the story.  Jesus died on the cross, he was buried, and finally ressurected.  I guess you never really stop and think what it must have been like to be Mary, and watch your son die.  Just the image of Mary having her dead son draped over her lap is terribly tragic to me, and I do have a lot for all things tragic (hello Titanic! - in the words of Joey Tribbiani "Those two only had each other!").

Michaelangelo depicted Mary to be much younger than she would actually be to symbolize her purity and innocence.  It might be hard to see from this angle but her arm is a little awkward because the statue was attacked by a man shouting "I am Jesus Christ!" and they had to put it back in place (I believe it fell off...though I'm not sure).

It's one of Michaelangelo's few completed pieces.  Boy liked to start something and then never finish it, not that I'm one to talk..heh..heh...moving on!  The draping is very heavy and realistic and reminiscint of Roman structureswhich made a comeback during the Renaissance.  Michaelangelo believed that all of his sculptures were already in the marble (or whatever he was working with) and he was releasing them from a prison.   I just find it all terribly impressive.

Mary's lap is a little exaggerated in size in order to fully hold Christ, and  I love how it's such a peaceful, calm moment between the two of them.  Almost as though you're intruding on a very private moment.

Michaelangelo started creating another pieta that he wanted for his own tomb however he was unhappy with it, for reasons unknown (two cookies for those who got that Killers reference), and attacked it with an axe.

MIEF5F~1

You can especially see it in Mary that it was never finished, and if you look closely you can see axe marks.  From other angles it becomes more obvious that Christ is missing a leg also (perhaps this is why he didn't like it?) and it is believed it was left out because it would be inappropriately close to Mary's leg.  Anyway, this image was obviously a favorite of Michaelangelo for him to want it for his own tomb, and I think it's gorgeous, so I thought I'd share :)

Hope you enjoy these posts, they're good for me to study from as well!

Ooooooooo

O. Chem may just be the death of me.   For no other reason than I DESPISE the lab.  For some unknown reason I just dread going to it!  Even though I'm  not all that awful at it.  oh well, only a couple more months!!!

My friend is dj-ing the bg radio station right now! it's kind of exciting!  Also, this season of American Idol is really pulling me in...I'm going to blame Stephen Tyler.  Also, the Threat Level Midnight episode of The Office may just be the greatest thing they have ever done, and that's saying something!

xoxo

it's starting to get warmer!!!!  yay!!!!

Edit: I came, I saw, I conquered that O. Chem lab.

Kind of.  There may have been a hydrochloric acid incident.

I Am Not a Seed of Failure

Sorry for lack of outfit posts.  I promise, once it starts getting more practical to look cute when you don't have to trudge through snow and fear slipping on ice in the tundra that is my outdoors, I'll be bringin' all the goods.  Just you wait and see.

So, what y'all up to?

p.s. a free cookie to those who know what song the title of this post is a lyric to.

Better Late than Never?

So here they are, some of my January favorites!  These are some of the things that have helped me get through the rather cold and dreary month.

January - I love you, but I'm glad I won't see you again until another 11 months.  It was real fun painful when you dumped all that snow on us...(and that means you too Februrary!).  This was also the month that my new semester started, yay! My classes aren't totally out of control like last semester!  January was also the month however that my roommate had the Kitchenaid contest and therefore was making lava cakes by the dozens to perfect his recipe.  Turns out, eating 5-6 lava cakes and more than my fair share of creamed nut horns ( my first baking experience in my apartment!) does not result in  weight loss- who knew!  I really need to kick it into gear this month as far as workouts go!

Anyway, that being the case, most of these things revolve around keeping one entertained when they are trapped in their apartment rather than beauty related products in any way.

First up:

This tea is fantastic and perfect for a cold, snowy day!

I LOVE this book.  It is fantastic!  I find myself more and more frustrated with having schoolwork to distract me from reading it!  If you like Steinbeck, you should definetely, definetely read it.  If you've never read him, this would be a wonderway way to dive in! (I'd also recommend Of Mice and Men).

Getting a little insirpiration from the 2011 Ikea Catalog.  I will go there someday...

'Cause they're there for me too!  Hands down my favorite tv show ever.  I rewatched all ten seasons on DVD and let me tell you, it was time well spent.  Monica and Chandler!  Phoebe having the triplets!  Joey and Hugsy, his bedtime penguin pal! Ross and Rachel have Emma! Love love love.

I also got this ring and really like it.  Charlotte Russe - $4.

tumblr_lcyxc8roUy1qcxa1ho1_500

I got this image from a Harry Potter Tumblr, if it is yours let me know so I can give credit!!

Harry Potter should also be a favorite this month.  I rewatched a good majority of the movies, stalked Harry Potter fanart on Tumblr, Finished up rereading the series and have had numerous deep Harry Potter discussions with my friends.  Not to mention creating mixes on my computer that remind me of certain characters from the books (which I will share when they are more complete) and watching a JK Rowling special from the HBP Blu - Ray DVD.  Are you scared yet? Cause you probably should be.

What are some of YOUR January favorites? Are you as happy as I am that it is over?

A Look Back in Time

l_4f078aa28de13a699777d3f390f61674

Yay! I finally figured out how to make my pictures BIGGER! My word those teeny tiny microscopic images were driving me MAD!  Good thing I know how to keep my composure, no? :)

Anyway, while trying to figure out how to make them bigger, I also made a little banner for myself! Not too shabby!  It's a work in progress though.

Above is a photo of me when I was just a pup, making a face I often still make to this day.  Ah, the life of a classy lady.  For the record, I also loved that chair.
